The Equine Hoof

A step-by-step, comprehensive program that takes you through the anatomical layers of the equine distal limb and hoof.

Do you already have and love the Anatomy of the Equine books but want to go a little deeper with your understanding? These webinars allow us to personally guide you through our amazing images, immersing you in an even greater awareness of the myriad of insights each image reveals.

What’s included:

Terminology

This module explores the common terminology used in equine anatomy.  It includes a glossary as well as a section that deciphers the root of the words and their meaning.

Conformation

This module explores the common conformation faults that occur in equines using real-life examples rather than just the usual diagrams.

Bones

This module explores the building blocks of the distal limb, the bones. It also includes information on basic radiographs and joint capsules.

Tendons

This module explores each of the tendons, ligaments and related structures within the distal forelimb. The precise location of each structure is revealed along with its origin and insertion point.

Hoof Production

This module explores the structures that grow the hoof, in minute detail.  Each structure produces a specific part of the hoof, but all pieces are interconnected. When you understand hoof growth, it is easier to spot hoof distortion and avert possible problems.

Back of the Hoof

This module takes you on a journey to discover the unique capabilities of the back of the hoof, which is built around soft tissues, giving it the capacity to both deform and distort. Understanding the subtle differences is paramount to hoof health. If you are rehabbing a horse with navicular, this module is a must watch.

Distortions

This module delves into the common hoof distortions of the equine. Each distortion is explored through painstaking dissections to reveal their effect on the internal structures.  Distortions studied: imbalances; distal descent of P3; toe length; negative palmar/plantar angle; high-low syndrome; sole concavity & thickness; toe cracks; quarter cracks; laminitis.

Central Sulcus Thrush

This bonus module explores the structures involved in central sulcus thrush and provides insights as to why it can be such an invasive problem. Another must watch for those with Navicular horses.

Tests

Is this course right for me? Meaning, will it “work” for me?

We have done our utmost to make this course impactful for all horse caretakers. It is presented in an easy-to-understand format and each module takes you deeper, making it suitable for novices and professionals alike. And because you can proceed at your own pace, it allows you to review and digest each section at your leisure. We recommend that you watch each module multiple times, as with each watching new insights are brought forth.

How long does it take to go through the course?

The total recorded time for all the modules is around five hours but we highly recommend multiple viewings as they all interact and deeper insight will arise the more you watch them. The dissection images are so revealing that even we learned a ton more whilst making this course. The more you learn, the more you are able to see, and the deeper your understanding becomes.
